Dictionary

Noh - The classical drama of Japan, with music and dance performed in a highly stylized manner by elaborately dressed performers on an almost bare stage.

Labradorite - A mineral in the Feldspar family, Labradorite has a dull greenish gray body color but shows an iridescence of orange, blue, yellow and or green when moved in the light. This is known as the Schiller Effect. Spectrolite is another, very closely related, mineral. Labradorite comes from the Labrador area of Canada.

Boulder Opal - A variety of opal which is naturally bonded to its host rock, usually ironstone (the "boulder"). It comes in many colors, and is just as beautiful in its rough shape as it is when polished into a cabochon. The Minx's second favorite gemstone.

Coral - A natural gem material from the sea. It can be red, white, black, or pink. Apple coral is orangey-red, with peachy areas, not unlike the appearance of a Fuji or Gala apple.

Miyuki delicas - Beautiful, high-quality glass beads, made in Japan. Unlike regular seed beads, which are usually irregularly-shaped and rounded, delicas are very uniform and cylindrical, which makes for nice, tight beadwork. The large-sized holes make it easier to work with the smaller beads as well. They are more expensive than other types of beads, but well worth it! I buy my delicas from Caravan Beads.
