![]() Some of you are quite romantic, others don't even know the meaning of the word.... Whatever the case, I had several of you share with me your thoughts on the holiday of love - St. Valentine's Day. Some answers were expected, typical, even. Others were sad. Mine were absolutely pitiful. Read on to see if your Valentine secrets are revealed. |
![]() I have long despised Valentine's day. Oh, when I was a kid, I thought it was ok, at least, until the edict came down that if you send one Valentine card to one kid in class, you must send one to each kid in class. It was all or nothing. So even the icky boys who had cooties got Valentine's cards from me, and vice versa. As I grew older, I was able to select exactly whom I would like to receive a little reminder of my affection. Alas, there were never any special someones in my life when Valentine's Day came around. My Mother has always been of the opinion that one should send cards to one's Mother and Grandmother. That's fine and good for those people who think that Hallmark needs more money, but the women in my family are not whom I consider to be proper Valentines. Plus, there's Mother's Day for that sort of thing, so I often rejected her suggestion (as is my wont). Occasionally, I would send a card to a former boyfriend, just to see if I would get anything in return. Well, I did once. It almost made me happy. Almost. After so many years spent sans-valentine, I became a Grinch for the season, complaining about the smoochiness going around, secretly jealous. Now I have a sweetheart, so I will join in the day's festivities with gusto. I was even able to put this entire issue together without gagging (well, not too many times at least!!) ![]() Enough preface. A few months back, I posed a few questions to my readership: 1. If you have a long-term steady sweetheart, do the two of you have any special Valentine's traditions? Do you visit a special restaurant or have any rituals you like to celebrate with - bubble bath, candlelight, etc.? 2. If you don't have a steady sweetheart, what would you expect to do if you *had* one? In other words, what would your fantasy Valentine's Day be like? 3. Describe your most romantic Valentine's Day. 4. Or do you just think Valentine's Day is just another way to make Hallmark richer and should be banned? Your answers here. ![]() |
